Traditional Dark Wood Kitchen with Breakfast Nook

Traditional Dark Wood Kitchen with Breakfast Nook

A traditional dark wood kitchen with breakfast nook in a farmhouse style.  A small dark kitchen received a total revamp with traditional dark cherry wood cabinetry, modern appliances, hidden and open storage with plenty of windows and doors for natural sunlight and patio access.

The client envisioned a space that could be used for entertaining large family gatherings as well as a quiet place to enjoy her morning coffee or check her email on days she worked from home.  NGD Interiors reimagined the space that included removing the wall between the kitchen and dining room, changing the dining room window into a set of French doors, implementing a large custom garden window for fresh herbs and plants, as well as working with challenging existing plumbing and electrical soffits all to create a cohesive space.   After the key structure of the kitchen was planned, we were then able to add custom traditional dark wood kitchen cabinetry  in Nina Green Signature Series Cabinetry with farmhouse details such as inset doors, turned legs, and toe kick valances.  A plethora of storage was added including hidden pullout drawers and tall pullout organizers, as well as open storage incorporated in the island for cookbooks and wine storage.

NGD Interiors chose lighter materials to offset the tradtional dark wood kitchen cabinetry including light travertine tile that was incorporated throughout the house, featuring a tile detail around the perimeter of the traditional dark wood cabinets.  Granite countertops were used throughout the kitchen, flowing seamlessly from the countertops into the garden window, as well as onto the overhang for kitchen stools.  Handmade clay white subway tile was used for the backsplash and features a molding edge around the countertop garden window in lieu of traditional wood molding.  Modern appliances were incorporated into the space, including a custom RangeCraft hood in brushed & polished stainless steel.  To finish the space, custom window treatments including roman shades, cornices, window bench and pillows were made specifically for this tradtional dark wood kitchen and breakfast nook.
