Cape May Chinoiserie Bathroom
A dated, red-trimmed seaside hall bath transformed into a jewel-box chinoiserie powder room — floral wallpaper, brass and emerald accents, and a black lacquer vanity, featured in Cape May and Design NJ magazines.

The challenge
This Cape May hall bathroom was frozen in time — busy mauve floral wallpaper, red-striped wall tile, a tired white pedestal sink, a cramped builder-grade corner shower stall, and dark wood trim that made the narrow space feel even smaller and far from the home’s seaside charm.
The vision
We reimagined it as a spirited chinoiserie powder room: a vivid pink-and-green floral wallpaper with crisp white subway wainscot, a dramatic black-and-white geometric floor, a black lacquer console vanity topped with a gold-filigree vessel sink and brushed-gold fittings, a green velvet skirted makeup chair, brass bamboo-style mirror and sconces, a jewel-green glass lantern, and a frameless glass shower with brass fixtures.
The result
A petite hall bath turned showstopper — a layered, collected chinoiserie jewel box that, like its sister suite, was featured in both Cape May Magazine and Design NJ Magazine.
Drag to compare
The full room — from a tired, red-trimmed hall bath to a layered chinoiserie jewel box.
The shower corner — a dated builder stall reborn as a frameless brass-and-subway corner shower.
