Holland Mix and Match Kitchen
A dated, oak-and-laminate Holland kitchen reimagined as a bold contemporary mix-and-match space — pairing crisp white shaker perimeter cabinets with a deep navy island, a dramatic live-edge waterfall wood bar top, dark quartz countertops, a white subway tile backsplash, and an open-concept eat-in dining area beneath sculptural geometric lighting.

The challenge
This Holland home had a cramped, closed-off kitchen and a separate, dated eat-in corner that never worked together. Honey-oak cabinets, beige laminate countertops, white appliances, and dark gold-brown walls made the kitchen feel heavy and out of date, while the adjoining eat-in area — gold walls, an oak table, and a builder chandelier — felt disconnected and dim. The two spaces needed to become one bright, modern room.
The vision
We reimagined the space as a confident mix-and-match kitchen that layers materials and tones for contemporary warmth. Crisp white shaker perimeter cabinets, a white subway tile backsplash, and dark quartz countertops form a clean, bright shell, while a deep navy island grounds the room and carries a dramatic live-edge waterfall wood bar that nods to organic texture. A stainless farmhouse apron sink, stainless appliances, oil-rubbed bronze hardware, and sculptural geometric pendants and a matching chandelier tie the kitchen and the newly open eat-in dining area together. Walnut-toned floors and patterned upholstered seating add depth and comfort.
The result
A bright, open-concept kitchen and dining space where white, navy, and natural wood play off one another — a true mix-and-match design that turned two dated, disconnected rooms into the modern heart of the home.
Drag to compare
The cooking wall — honey-oak cabinets and white appliances replaced by white shaker cabinetry, subway tile, dark quartz, and stainless steel.
The eat-in dining area — a dim, gold-walled corner opened into a bright, open-concept dining space anchored by the navy island and geometric lighting.
