Yardley Transitional Rustic Living Room

A dark, dated Yardley living room reimagined as a light-filled transitional rustic retreat — anchored by a floor-to-ceiling stacked stone fireplace with a reclaimed wood mantel, custom gray built-ins, and a layered mix of leather, herringbone, and rich blues beneath a soaring vaulted ceiling.

The Story

The challenge

This Yardley home had a soaring vaulted living room with great volume but no focal point and no warmth. Dim olive and tan walls swallowed the light, a small white-tile fireplace looked lost beneath the tall sloped ceiling, mismatched black TV stands and a red sectional cluttered the space, and the room read dark and dated despite a beautiful wall of windows looking out to the garden.

The vision

We reimagined the room as a transitional rustic retreat that finally uses its height. A floor-to-ceiling stacked stone fireplace, crowned with a rough-hewn reclaimed wood mantel beam, anchors the vaulted wall and carries the TV up where it belongs. Custom gray built-in bookcases — detailed with saddle-leather wrapped pulls — frame the hearth and add storage and polish. Soft sage and warm gray walls brighten the volume, while a layered scheme of caramel leather, herringbone upholstery, blue-and-ivory textiles, antiqued mirrors, and a vivid blue Persian rug brings collected, lived-in warmth to the space.

The result

A bright, grounded living room that lives up to its architecture — rustic texture and transitional polish working together beneath the vaulted ceiling, with a stone fireplace that turns a once-forgettable wall into the heart of the home.
