Transitional Rustic Living Room
A transitional Rustic Living Room with full height stone fireplace, custom bookcases, and cozy seating, perfect for those cold winter nights!
NGD Interiors was brought in to transform this mis-matched living room into a transitional rustic living room that family and guests would enjoy using. Our first mission was to address the forlorn fireplace wall. The existing fireplace, inoperable for many years sat flat to the wall, making the towering two story ceilings look disproportionate. Our plan included moving the fireplace box and new gas insert further out into the room. By adding a rustic stone facade from floor to ceiling, we created a stunning two story focal point that this room deserved. A special rustic element was the floating mantle beam, which was an antique reclaimed wood beam taken from a local barn. The original TV in the corner made furniture placement not optimal and feel disconnected from each other. By bumping out the fireplace, we were able to flank tall transitional gray cabinets by the fireplace. While attractive, these cabinets house electrical & cable connections for the newly relocated TV above the fireplace. The gray bookcases were upgraded in style with Philip Jeffries wallpaper in a tranistional tweed menswear pattern in the back, creating a pop of unexpected texture and pattern. Dark Harwood flooring replaced the worn carpet, while new overhead lighting and freshly painted walls brightened up the transitional rustic living room.
After addressing the built in elements, NGD Interiors moved onto the furniture plan. By relocating the TV from the corner to above the fireplace, we were able to create a more functional seating area layout. A large L-shaped sofa in a soft stain resistant tweed fabric sits under the window facing the TV/Fireplace area. Under the half wall, a transitional rustic sideboard featuring closed storage, perfect for unsightly toys and games was added. Across the large seating area is a casual yet stately leather chair with brass nail-heads. Perfect for enjoying the fire or a good book.
The rustic sideboard is made from reclaimed wood with a hand carved design detail on the front. Two large mirrors with transitional geometric details are made from a distressed wood, matching the other rustic details around the room. Two metal studded velvet ottoman stools sit underneath the console, doubling as seating and storage.
A large colorful area rug in a broken oriental pattern, warms the room and brings in playful accent colors. Atop the rug are matching white topped coffee and side tables with brass bases. No need for coasters! These matching tables sport durable white quartz, a surface that will not stain and is easily wipeable.
It’s all in the details… mixed metals, bright blues and stitched leathered door pulls from Top Knobs are all added in the final details to finalize this transitional rustic living room.
