NGD Interior’s KBIS 2013 Highlights

This year, I had the pleasure of attending KBIS-Kitchen and Bath Industry Show, which was held in New Orleans. I was awarded the 2013 NKBAs 30 young professionals under 30 and was part of a group that gave a presentation about the Showroom of the Future. Here are some of the KBIS 2013 highlights of that presentation, as well as some innovative displays and experiences that I had while at this fantastic show.

How do different showrooms stand apart? Perhaps it is through an immersion experience. You are no longer in a showroom, but in a live, interactive and working room, such as a functional kitchen or bathroom with working displays.
Many KBIS attendees experienced this concept at the Kohler booth. Faucets could be turned on and off, shower heads could be touched and adjusted, and toilets could be flushed. These were all powerful and interactive ways to show their product capabilities. Some of my favorite products

At the Elmwood Cabinetry booth, there was a mixture of large and small working displays that showcased their cabinetry. Whether it was a hutch unit with coffee storage or a unit that doubled as a dresser featuring a hidden T.V. with automatic lift.

At the Rev-A-Shelf booth, displays were built to look like pieces of furniture, displaying how the product could be used in an attractive everyday setting, while showcasing the working organizers filled with goodies.
Over at the Blum booth, the immersion experience was taken to a whole new level with the aging suit. Attendees were given the chance to explore how an aging population may feel while performing daily tasks including limited mobility, aging eyesight and hearing. Immersion experiences such as this help the consumer make educated decisions about what needs to be incorporated into their home for aging in place situations.

All of these booths at KBIS 2013 had hands on and engaging displays, allowing the attendees to explore the capabilities and quality of the product.
Perhaps with future technology and 3-D visualization, it will be the consumers home that is projected into the showroom with the lighting, scents, and sounds of their home.
