Traditional Family Room with Fireplace

Traditional Family Room With Fireplace

A traditional family room with fireplace featuring tans and grays, paired with crisp white for a neutral room that is anything but boring.

NGD Interiors was brought in to transform this traditional family room into an area ready for entertainment, relaxing with the family and not look like a child’s play house!  Our main request was to add a fireplace, open the room to the front living room, as well as open the area between the kitchen and family room.

On the outside wall, a traditional white mantle with marble and travertine surround, house a brand new electric fireplace.  Perfect for those cold fall and winter nights.  The (upgraded) large TV was moved from the corner and above the fireplace, perfect for a viewing party or Friday family nights.  Flanking the traditional fireplace are full depth white shaker cabinetry with matching wood top, a stylish way for hiding games, dvds and other toys.  Above, rustic wood shelving, ideal for showcasing decorative items and family photos. Peaking behind the shelving, the walls are covered in a fun Phillip Jeffries rattan weave wallpaper in shades of tan and gray.

On the adjoining wall of the fireplace, an attractive set of traditional French doors was added, allowing the tradtional family room to be  opened or closed between the two rooms.  A matching door with lites that leads to the finished basement was added.  Running throughout the entire first floor is new plank vinyl flooring in a rustic wood look.  A light and neutral beige paint color was used throughout the spaces for a light and airy feeling.

A dividing half wall between the kitchen and tradtional family room was removed, allowing for a larger kitchen table and sofa.  The large cozy sofa was custom made to fit the space, allowing for all of the family to fit.  The tradtional sofa features a nice neutral and stain resistant fabric.  Custom decorative pillows in gray geometrics and animal print complete the cozy area.  Accent furniture in rustic metal and wood were added in the petite, round side tables and the large coffee table.  A French style metal and marble table sits behind the sofa, visually breaking the space between the family room area and the eat in kitchen.

A traditional crisp white table and chairs, matching the new cabinetry and mantle was centered in front of the sliding doors. A new wrought iron chandelier replaced a small undersized pendant light.  Custom cornices over the kitchen window and sliding doors coordinate with the custom drapery in the family room.  Finishing off this traditional family room is accents of black wrought found throughout including light fixtures, accents on furniture, cabinetry pulls and drapery hardware.
