Contemporary Mix and Match Kitchen
This contemporary mix and match kitchen features white cabinetry, blue center island and a live edge bar top. Accents of white tile, dark grout and rustic light fixtures round out this contemporary kitchen.
NGD Interiors started the project with a heavy emphasis on layout. The original L-shaped kitchen did not provide any space for cooking prep or storage not to mention the contemporary style the client was hoping for. The small kitchen table was used on a daily basis, while steps away, the adjoining dining room was used only on special occasions. NGD Interiors implemented a contemporary layout that included removing the adjoining wall, allowing for a long run of white cabinetry along both perimeters. Along the long perimeter, the newly reduced window allows for large banks of drawers for a contemporary idea to pullout storage and buffet style serving. On the main perimeter, the cooking zone included an induction range and drawer microwave, finished with refrigeration and pullout pantry. Directly opposite, the long center island in a contrasting deep blue, lends itself to a contemporary mix and match style. For a contemporary take on a farmhouse sink, we used a large stainless steel Kohler apron sink, paired with a touch-less Delta faucet and paneled dishwasher. The long elevated counter space features a special live edge bar top milled from antique lumber and hand crafted for the project. White handmade subway tile, paired with the dark grout and quartz countertops provides a pleasing contrast to the white cabinetry in this contemporary mix and match kitchen.
In the dining area for a transitional feel, we paired a long metal topped trestle table with upholstered chairs. Window treatments in a soft linen and contemporary geometric pattern soften the windows while still providing a light and airy feeling. Finishing off both spaces, black hardware that mimics pipe fittings and rustic iron lighting found both in the pendants, sconces, and large overhead dining chandelier complete this contemporary mix and match kitchen.
